8 new deaths, 137 new cases reported in Orange County due to COVID-19 pandemic

The Orange County Health Care Agency reported Wednesday eight new deaths and 137 new cases of the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19.

The total number of deaths is 158 and cases is 6,678. Of those cases, 746 are skilled nursing facility residents and 379 Orange County jail inmates.

Currently, 279 cases are in hospitalization and 120 are in intensive care units. As of Wednesday, a total of 2,810 cases have recovered.

Males currently account for 56% of COVID-19 related deaths and about 51% of the total number of cases in the county. People identifying as white account for 18%, those identifying as Latino or Hispanic are 36% and Asians are 9% of cases.

There were 945 tests administered and reported, the lowest number of tests counted since May 26. The total number of tests administered countywide is 140,843.

By age range, all patients who have died were:

  • 85 and up: 50
  • 75 to 84: 43
  • 65 to 74: 27
  • 55 to 64: 17
  • 45 to 54: 13
  • 35 to 44: 5
  • 34 and younger: 3

Here are the latest case counts for select cities, with numbers per 10,000 residents:

  • Santa Ana: 1,306 (38.7 cases per 10,000 residents)
  • Anaheim: 1,160 (32.3 cases per 10,000 residents)
  • Huntington Beach: 353 (17.3 cases per 10,000 residents)
  • Irvine: 206 (7.4 cases per 10,000 residents)
  • Newport Beach: 146 (16.7 cases per 10,000 residents)
  • Costa Mesa: 132 (11.4 cases per 10,000 residents)
  • Fountain Valley: 64 (11.3 cases per 10,000 residents)
  • Laguna Beach: 46 (19.7 cases per 10,000 residents)
