Costa Mesa police are currently seeking Max Diamond, a 29-year-old resident of Norwalk who allegedly shot a man earlier this month.

Officers responded to a call about shots fired at around 5:40 a.m. on March 2 in the 2000 block of Harbor Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 30-year-old man from Costa Mesa had been shot. He was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for a gunshot wound to the neck.

The victim survived the injury and has since been released from the hospital, officials said.

Department spokeswoman Roxi Fyad said in a statement issued Wednesday that officers determined the incident began after the victim heard a disturbance between a man and a woman.

On hearing the woman scream, the victim went to a parking lot to investigate. He said he witnessed a woman running away from a man who was later determined by police to be Diamond, a parolee. The woman ran south on Harbor Boulevard and Diamond stopped and turned to confront the victim.

Diamond then allegedly pulled a gun from his waistband and shot the victim, then fled on foot, running north on Harbor. Detectives are asking members of the public to help locate him.

Officials said Diamond should be considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached.

If Diamond is seen, members of the public should call 911. Those with information are asked to reach out to Det. Joe Saar at (714) 754-5643 or jsaar@costamesaca.gov or Det. Sgt. Jose Morales at (714) 754-4933 or jmorales@costamesaca.gov.
