An unidentified Orange County resident was among the first 15 winners chosen Friday to receive $50,000 each in the state’s $116.5 million COVID-19 vaccination incentive program, “Vax for the Win,” according to City News Service.

Using a game show-type format, Gov. Gavin Newsom presided over the drawing. The names of the 15 winners — who will be contacted by phone to be advised of their winnings — are not being divulged for privacy reasons.

Another 15 vaccinated Californians will win $50,000 on Friday, June 11. On Tuesday, June 15, when the state lifts most of its COVID-19 restrictions, 10 winners will be selected to receive $1.5 million each.

Crossroads of the West Gun Show opens in Costa Mesa

The three-day Crossroads of the West Gun Show opened Friday afternoon at the Orange County Fairgrounds, 88 Fair Drive, Costa Mesa.

Hours Saturday are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday the show opens at 9 a.m. and closes at 4 p.m. Tickets allow entrance to all days of the show. Children 12 and under will be admitted at no charge in the company of a paying parent or guardian. To purchase a ticket visit crossroadsofthewestgunshow.

Drive-in movie night set for June 18

A family-friendly drive-in movie night presented by the city of Costa Mesa and IKEA will take place in the IKEA parking lot, 1475 S. Coast Drive, from 8 to 10 p.m. on Friday, June 18. Food trucks will be on site to serve hungry film-goers.

O.C. Community Foundation raises funds to benefit 10 nonprofits

A 24-hour online fundraising event held May 20, “Empowering Possibilities” and hosted by the Orange County Community Foundation, raised $129,242 from 532 donors.

The money will go to 10 nonprofits that lend support and services to people living with disabilities in the county. The agencies benefiting from the event include Blind Children’s Learning Center of OC; Dayle McIntosh Center for the Disabled; Down Syndrome Association of OC; Family Support Network; Hope Center for the Arts; Project Independence; Special Olympics Southern California; Speech and Language Development Center; United Cerebral Palsy Association of OC; and Vocational Visions.

“We are grateful to each and every donor for supporting the Empowering Possibilities Collaborative Giving Day,” said Shelley Hoss, president and chief executive of the Orange County Community Foundation, in a statement issued by the organizaiton. “We are proud to support nonprofits working to help our neighbors with disabilities, and continue to be inspired by the creativity, passion and resiliency of OC nonprofits serving our community’s most vulnerable residents.”
