Breakers win two in girls’ tennis
The Laguna Beach High girls’ tennis team evened its Pacific Coast
League record at 1-1 Tuesday by defeating Northwood, 14-4, in a match played on the Laguna Beach courts.
Katie Ochwat, playing No. 2 singles, swept her three Northwood
opponents, winning by scores of 6-2, 6-1 and 6-1.
The Breakers’ top doubles tandem of Claire Rietsch/Camerin
Barron-Sandman also swept the opposition, winning 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1,
as did the No. 3 squad of Alex Murrel/Britton Simons who won by
scores of 6-4, 6-1, 6-2.
The victory over Northwood capped a tough, three-match stretch
over a six-day period that saw Laguna Beach drop its PCL opener to
Corona del Mar on Oct. 3, one day after the Breakers had defeated
Newport Harbor, 15-3, in a nonleague match.
In a girls’ PCL golf match played on Tuesday, Laguna Beach was
upended by Tesoro, 265-277. The Breakers’ Andrea Martinez was the
match’s medalist with a 46.
The loss dropped Laguna Beach to 0-2 in PCL matches.
