Seahawks claim first victory

Share

Last Saturday was a day of firsts for the Laguna Beach Pop Warner

Football team.

The most important was the Seahawks’ first winning game of the

season. They beat host Canyon Hills, 2-0, at Canyon High in Anaheim

Hills.

The second was that in the process, they recorded their first

shutout.

The teams were locked in a defensive struggle heading into the

fourth quarter. It was then, however, that Laguna Beach was able to

pull out the win.

In the game’s late stages Seahawks nose tackle Devon Hands broke

through to block a punt and the ball rolled out of the end zone

giving Laguna Beach a safety.

That score stood as the Seahawks improved to 1-7 overall.

Hands shared the team’s defensive player of the game honor with

Jordan O’Brien.

O’Brien earned the honor by coming up with an interception.

Quarterback Trevor Pierce was named Laguna Beach’s offensive

player of the game by coach Roger Torriero.

The Seahawks entered the game without the services of running back

Kameron Pearson and wide receiver Chris Hyden.

Laguna Beach will try to end the season on a winning note when the

Seahawks wrap up their 2002 schedule on Saturday.
