Many winners in Newport Beach

Youth athletes broke or tied 12 records in recent competition at the

Newport Beach Track and Field Championships at Newport Harbor High.

The top three from each race also qualified for the Orange County

Championship Meet in May.

In the girls 96 division, which includes participants born in

1996, Jules Pouch set a record in the 200-meter dash (40.5) and tied

a record in the 100 (18.70) while Eric Leimkuhler in the boys 95 won

the 400 (2:00.9) and 200 (35.9), breaking the previous records in

those events. Kevin Williams in the softball throw (245 feet) and

shot put (41feet, 5 inches ) in the boys 89 division also broke two

records Friday. Angelique Piecas in the girls 93 softball throw

(94-3) and Michael Andraszczyk in the 1,600 (5:04.4) in boys 90

action each established new records. Andraszczyk also won the 400 in

1:01.2.

Hillary May set a record in the 1,600 (5:40.1) while Arion Ingram

cleared 4-6 to win the high jump in girls 89. Courtney McGuire tied a

record with a leap of 13-3 in the long jump in girls 88.

Pouch also won the long jump (8-3) and joined Stephen Cureton,

Megan Crosson, John Swigert, Alex Swigert and Nick Debeaubien as the

only athletes to triple in their respective divisions. Cureton won

the 50 (9.97), 100 (18:90) and long jump (6-6) in the boys 96

division while Crosson took first in the 50 (8.78), 200 (36.8) and

long jump (9-7) in the girls 94 category.

John Swigert bested the field in the 100 (15.3), 400 (1:17) and

ran anchor on the winning 400 relay in the boys 93 division (1:09.9).

He joined Jonathan Keedy, Evan Dean and Nicholas Potter on the relay

team. Alex Swigert won the 200 (30.8), 400 (1:07.9) and led the 400

relay team along with Matthew Wheatley, Camdan Nicholson and James

Cunningham, which ran to first in 1:03.6 in boys 91 action.

Nick Debeaubien won the 200 (28.3), long jump (16-5) and high jump

(5) in the boys 89 division.

Eleven athletes doubled, including Monica Venturini in the 50

(8.86) and 400 (1:35.8) in girls 95 action while Robert Boullon took

first in the 50 (8.87) and 100 (16.7) in the boys 95.

Robert Sullivan crossed first in the 200 (38.5) and 400 (1:21.4)

in boys 94 action with Anna Venturini won the 100 (16.4) and led the

400 relay team alongside Michelle O’Campo, Lizbeth Hernandez and

Madeleine Gallardo in girls 93 that finished in 1:12.2. Jacqueline Freiberger won the 200 (36.7) and the 400 (1:19.5). Nathan Eon, in

boys 93, took first in the long jump (11-4) and softball throw

(115-4).

Evan McGuire in the long jump (12-9) and 200 (32.1), alongside

Erik Heimstaedt in the 800 (3:02.3) and softball throw (127), placed

first in boys 92 action.

Elizabeth Eddy won two events: the 800 (2:57.6) and long jump

(12-3) in girls 91 while Victor Done placed first in the softball

throw (129) and high jump (3-9) in boys 91.

Monique Gallardo crossed first in the 100 (14.5) and 200 (31.6) in

girls 90 while Carlo Valdes won both the 100 (13.9) and 200 (30.1).

Stephanie Spinks placed first in both the 100 (13.7) and 200 (29.4)

in girls 89 while McGuire won the 200 (29.4) to go with her

record-tying long jump leap.

each division.
