UCI, OCC holding summer camps

UC Irvine’s Marine Cano, the university’s Director of Soccer and its

women’s soccer coach, is holding two clinics for goalkeepers and

field players beginning Wednesday.

Boys ages 9 to 15 can now join Cano for his multi-session, weekly

goalkeeping clinics held Wednesdays from 5:30 to 7:15 p.m. on the

athletic field behind Crawford Hall at UCI. Cano is a former member

of the U.S. national team as a goalkeeper.

The clinic is open to all aspiring goalkeepers, regardless of

ability or experience level. Cano, who has spent 10 years at UCI and

20 years as a collegiate soccer coach, will stress player

development, safety and proper training methods.

In addition to the goalkeeper clinics, Cano will also hold skills

sessions for boys and girls field players. UCI assistants and players

will help at both clinics.

Players may register for both clinics on Wednesday and parents

will have to sign a waiver at that time.

Clinics will continue on an ongoing basis and cost $25 per person,

payable in monthly installments.

Metered parking is available at the Bren Events Center.
