The Newport Harbor Baseball Association Mustang (9- and 10-year-old)
B All-Star team remained alive in district play with a 12-2 victory
over Fountain Valley Saturday in Los Alamitos.
Vincent Aquaveque went 3 for 3 with two doubles and a triple while
striking out six in three innings on the mound for Newport, which
lost its opening game in the double-elimination tournament.
Newport Manager Jeff Davis said his team played errorless defense
and received strong pitching and hitting.
Aquaveque set the tone by striking out the side in the top of the
first inning.
Brennan Callahan came on in relief to secure the win, allowing
only one run and striking out three.
Joining in on Newport’s hit parade were Ryan Schroth (single,
double), Nick Sargeant (two singles), Ryan Davis (single, RBI) while
C.J. Tona, Kyle Flagg, and A.J. Swies each added key base hits.
