Turning up the burning point

I find it interesting that the most fervent critics of the movie

“Fahrenheit 9/11” seem more obsessed with attacking Michael Moore

than in taking on the points he makes in his film.

Moore’s film offers a dramatic and unapologetic critique of Bush

and his administration. But the facts that serve as the basis for

Moore’s critique have yet to be disputed. In fact, most, if not all,

of the claims he makes are well-known and part of the public record.

If people think the case Moore makes is flawed, then they should

debate the merits of that case. The failure of many right-wing

critics to do so makes me wonder if they’re more interested in

playing politics than engaging in a genuine debate about the issues

the film raises.

I need to comment on the Community Commentary by Sue Clark on July

6 (“Patriotism, ‘9/11’ and weighing the costs of war”). I

congratulate Clark and agree with her entire commentary. Real

patriots become informed about what their government is doing.

I weep when I read stories of our troops being wounded and killed.

I weep for their families and friends. I weep for the innocent Iraqi

people who have lost their loved ones. I have become numb. I will

vote for anybody but Bush. I will vote for John Kerry and John

Edwards in November to save our country. I want our troops home now!

Thank you Sue, for your wonderful commentary!

Because the movie “Fahrenheit 9/11” has received much press, due

to its huge box-office opening, I felt compelled to voice my opinion.

Filmmaker Michael Moore continues to attack President Bush because we

attacked Iraq for no apparent reason. I guess a dictator who

slaughtered thousands of his own people, by use of weapons of mass

destruction, doesn’t qualify in Moore’s mind as a terrorist. Why

doesn’t Moore educate us all on the fact that our president did what

he felt was in the best interest of our country. Have we had any

attacks here on U.S. soil since 9/11? Not that I am aware of.

I know Moore would prefer we just sat back like our president’s

predecessor and hope nothing else happened, but fortunately,

President Bush chose not to. No war is popular, no one wants to see

anyone die in battle, but our country was built on freedoms afforded

us as a result of men and women fighting for our country.

In a day when these insane extremists will go to any length to

kill an American, extreme measures must be taken. In the two years

since the terrorists attacked us, President Bush has liberated two

countries, crushed the Taliban, crippled Al Qaeda and put nuclear

inspectors in countries such as Libya, without firing a shot.

My advice to Moore is to take your bias and move to Siberia. I,

along with so many other of my fellow Americans, are proud of the

effort our president is making to ensure we have a safe and secure

country. Our men and women fighting every day, so the likes of Moore

can earn millions of dollars on lies, should be enough for anyone not

to put one more nickel in this guy’s pocket.
