Newport Beach resident and Big Canyon Country...

Newport Beach resident and Big Canyon Country Club member Don DuBois

shot a final-round, 7-over-par 77 to finish in a four-way tie for

10th place in the Southern California Golf Association amateur

championship Sunday at Hillcrest Country Club in Los Angeles.

DuBois, 45, who finished third in the event three years ago,

finished 13-over (70-75-71-77--293), 14 strokes back of champion Tim

Hogarth of Northridge (71-71-68-69--279), who went 1-under par for

the tournament. Golfers played 36 holes Friday and 18 on Saturday and

Sunday.

Newport Beach resident Steve Conway and a senior on UCLA’s men’s

golf team, placed third in the event (70-71-71-72--284).

* Area residents Greg Presson (Newport Coast), Bill Welch (Newport

Beach) and Kirk Norton (Costa Mesa), along with Irvine resident Mark

Hoppe, teamed to claim first place in the low gross division at

Goodwill of Orange County’s annual golf tournament, which saw 146

players converge on Pelican Hill Golf Club in Newport Coast on June

17.

Dale and Joyce Snyder of Newport Beach, along with Gene and Renae

Ashwill of Laguna Beach, took second in the low net division.

The event raised more than $72,000 to help fund Goodwill’s

education, training and employment services for people with

disabilities and other barriers to independence.

Ninety-one cents of every dollar raised went to Goodwill programs,

which assist individuals with work and social abilities, cultural and

language skills while helping them succeed in the workplace.

USC basketball legend and former UC Irvine coach Dan Rogers, an

avid golfer who lives in Costa Mesa, is the company’s president and

chief executive officer.
