H.B. United shows form at nationals

H.B. United, a boys under-12 soccer team out of AYSO Region 56, won
four games last weekend at the AYSO National Games tournament at
Lancaster.
H.B. United compiled a 4-2-1 record during the weeklong
tournament.
The event, played in temperatures that reached nearly 100 degrees,
attracted 190 boys’ and girls’ teams from throughout the nation,
competing in divisions ranging from under-12 through under-18.
The invitation-only tournament, which takes place every other
year, drew teams from as far away as St. Thomas in the Virgin
Islands.
H.B. United placed second in its half of the bracket and was sixth
overall in the national standings.
Coach John McArthur’s team received outstanding offensive play
from Tyler Smith, Sam Hunt, Kyle MacLeod, Dylan Simmons and George
and Trevor Hatchard.
Brett Bryant dominated midfield play, and the defense was keyed by
goaltenders Cameron McArthur and Bajj Chela, Charlie Miller and Johny
Minar.

Code Red takes first place in tourney play
Code Red, a recently formed girls under-12 club soccer team,
captured first place last weekend at the Wolfpack 2004 Invitational
Tournament.
Code Red finished second at the conclusion of pool play, then came
on strong in semifinal-round action by blanking Encinitas Express
Viles, 6-0.
In the tournament final, Code Red claimed a 1-0 victory over the
Corona Eagles. The two teams had played to a tie in an earlier
pool-play match.
In the final two minutes of the tense championship match, Danica
McGuire put a direct kick into the top corner of the net, giving Code
Red a lead it would not relinquish.
Code Red team members are Alli Budd, Erica Cabibbo, Brianna Demes,
Lauren Hanson, Makenna Henry, Alison Hensley, Jodi Hwang, Breanne
Justice, Erika Longoria, Kirsten Marony, Danica McGuire, Kelly
Mitsumori, Rachel Pasternak, Alyssa Strickland and Tiffany Van Tress
with coaches Ron Budd and Dale Hensley.
