Kyle Wilson, a starter at Costa Mesa Golf & Country Club, bested 34

golfers to win the open division at the inaugural American Long

Drivers Association national finals that concluded Sunday at Primm

Valley Golf Club in Primm, Nev.

Wilson, 30, went through five rounds of the winner’s bracket and

defeated Huntington Beach’s Jeff Farley, who finished in the top five

at the ReMax World Long Drive finals in October, in the championship

round.

Each golfer hit six balls per round in the match-play event, with

two counting toward the player’s aggregate score.

Wilson, who reached the fourth round of the world championships

last year, said he averaged between 370 and 385 yards per drive at

Primm.

At a separate event on Friday, Wilson topped the field in the

first round of qualifying for this fall’s world finals following a

403-yard drive. *
