Gymnasts from SCATS in Huntington Beach laid claim to gold medals in

various team competitions at the State Championships held in Santa

Ana.

Coached by Albert Avchian, Grigor Chalikyan and Mitchell Claman,

the SCATS boys’ squad won medals and individual titles in Level 6, 7

and 10 competition, which is overseen by the U.S.A. Gymnastics

organization.

Level 6

Alex Anunciation grabbed gold on the vault and the high bar in

becoming an all-around state champion.

Kanji Oyama was right behind Anunciation in second place and

earned an additional silver medal on rings.

The performances of Jonah Urlaub, Aaron Yoshizuka and Oliver

Walton contributed to the team’s first-place award.

Level 7

Sam Mikulak and Joshua Glenn each won all-around titles.

Mikulak won gold on vault and parallel bars, while Glenn gained

gold in four events: pommel horse, vault, parallel bars and high bar.

Adrian de los Angeles won gold on floor and rings. Jesse Glenn won

gold on pommel horse and Jacob Glen won gold on rings.

Level 10

Glen Ishino won the high bar en route to becoming a state

all-around champion.

all-around competition standings. Stover won gold on rings and Chu

came away with gold on rings, vault and high bar.

Jason Laughton won gold for his outstanding pommel horse

performance.

Also contributing to the Level 10 team trophy were Darryl Garris,

Francisco Grey and Jonathan Grey.

In other State Championships competition, SCATS boys’ Level 5 team

finished in fifth place overall. Team members Cameron Gorman, Clark

Pitti and Brandon Loschiavo’s all-around scores contributed to the

most prestigious honor in boys’ junior Olympic gymnastics -- the Iron

Man award, which totals two all-around scores at each level.

In youth softball:

Sluggers, 8; Angels, 6

Rebecca Swartz hit her first home run of the season and Erin

Dunneback delivered a game-tying home run, as the Surf City Sluggers

defeated the H.B. Angels.

Taylor Hickman singled twice and Nicole McLendon, Alexea Lopez and

catcher Alison Andrew sparked the Sluggers defensively.

Bailey Murchison saw first-time action on the mound this season

for the Sluggers, and Jennifer Snyder saw relief action.
