Shaun O’Meara and Bryan Harris have signed national letters of intent with the UC Irvine men’s golf program, UCI Coach Paul Smolinski said.

O’Meara, the son of PGA player Mark O’Meara, is attending Lake Highland Prep School in Orlando, Fla.

Shaun O’Meara, in the past two years, won the International Junior Golf Tour’s Saddlebrook Tournament and the Southeastern Junior Golf Tour’s Grand Cypress tourney.

He placed sixth at the IJGT National Championship. O’Meara finished second in the Future Collegians World Tour’s Mission Inn Tournament and was third in the FCWT Plantation Inn and Saddlebrook tourneys. He set his high school record by shooting a 6-under 30 during a nine-hole match.

O’Meara had a nine-hole scoring average of 36.4 and led his high school team to an eighth-place finish at last year’s state championships.

Harris, from Palm Springs High, is ranked in the nation’s top 100 for the 2007 recruiting class. He competed in the 2005 and 2006 U.S. Junior Amateur and Junior World Championships.

Harris won the Desert Tournament of Champions with rounds of 67-67 to win by 11 shots. He also has recorded several top-15 finishes in American Junior Golf Association, Future Collegians World Tour and Southern California tournaments.

“I am very excited to have Shaun and Bryan sign with our program,” Smolinski said. “They will be counted on to play a major role for the Anteaters next year after we lose current senior leaders Jay Choe and Brian Edick. Shaun and Bryan both have the potential for great careers.”
