Newspaper invites all to open house

Coastline Pilot

Los Angeles Times Community News (TCN) is planning an open house at the Orange County plant in Costa Mesa.

The staffs of the Laguna Beach Coastline Pilot, Huntington Beach Independent and Daily Pilot are inviting readers, advertisers and community members to visit their respective operations from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Readers will have the chance to preview the new Los Angeles Times Community News websites for the Orange County newspapers and interact with editors, columnists, reporters, photographers and members of the business-side operation. Newsroom tours will be available.

“I want to personally extend an invitation to our readers in Newport-Mesa, Huntington Beach, Fountain Valley and Laguna Beach to meet our staff and get a behind-the-scenes look at how we produce our Orange County community newspapers and websites,” John Canalis, editor of Times Community News South, said in a written statement. “I also relish the opportunity to get feedback directly from our readers. This is their chance to tell the people who run the papers what they like and dislike about our products.”

Canalis became editor of TCN South in February. This will be his first open house as editor.

Also expected to attend are three city editors: Cindy Frazier of the Coastline Pilot, Michael Miller of the Huntington Beach Independent and Imran Vittachi of the Daily Pilot.

Those who produce the sports and entertainment sections for the three newspapers are also expected.

The event will take place at The Times Orange County newsroom, 1375 Sunflower Ave., Costa Mesa. Appetizers and drinks will be provided.
