Joe Heber Bradford May 22, 1923 - Aug. 18 2010

The Bradford family sadly announces the passing of Joe Heber Bradford on Aug. 18, 2010, in Newport Beach at age 87.

Joe was born in Ventura and went to Medical School at USC where he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity and played center for the Trojans. The highlight of his gridiron days was 58 minutes in the 1946 Rosebowl. He married Kathryn Hon in 1946.

In 1954 Joe opened a family practice in Whittier. Joe was chief of staff at Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital and on the faculty at USC where he founded the Family Practice Residency Program at Presbyterian Hospital. For many years, Joe was an active member of the Lions Club International and for 15 years a senior supervisor for the California Medical Assn. with the Joint Commission on Hospital Accreditation.

Upon retiring in 1994, Joe and his family moved to their family home on Balboa Island where he enjoyed sailing and was a member of Newport Harbor Yacht Club.

After Kathryn died in 1991, Joe married Judy Johnson Wix, also born in Ventura. They have shared 18 years of happiness and many miles of traveling.

Joe is survived by his wife, Judy, four children: Deborah Exley (Landon), Victoria Vance (Joe), Curt Bradford, Jamie Klippert (Younger); three stepchildren: Susan Patten (Crane), John Wix and Alyson Princler (Charles). He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Lauren, Whitney, Courtney, Samantha, Amy, Kathryn, Blake and Garrett.

A service will be at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 25 at Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, 3233 Pacific View Drive, Corona del Mar.
