Mozambique to host cleanup volunteers

Mozambique Steakhouse will host an after-party and concert on Sept. 25 for beach clean-up volunteers participating in the upcoming California Coastal Clean-up Day, in which volunteers conduct trash pick-up from 9 a.m. to noon at beach locations. Starting at noon immediately following the cleanup, participants are invited to Mozambique for a free "appreciation concert" featuring Jason Feddy and discounted pricing, with food and drinks starting at $3.

"The California Coastal Clean-up Day is a remarkable effort by thousands of volunteers. The Clean Water Now! Coalition has done a great job, and we are happy to show our support," said Ivan Spiers, owner of Mozambique Steakhouse.

Mozambique is continuing its participation in the Mozambique Neighborhood Beautification effort, a cleanup organized by Once a week, a team of volunteers pick up trash on the streets and beaches around the restaurant from noon to 1 pm. Mozambique has sponsored hundreds of T-shirts for the volunteers.

Mozambique also recently became a sponsor of the Clean Beach Station program. This new program keeps Laguna's beaches clean while helping students throughout Orange County meet required community service hours. The Clean Beach Station program has recruited surf shops and stores along the coast to serve as information and supply stations.

Elder financial abuse workshop set

Keith D. Wisbaum, a Laguna Beach attorney, will lead a workshop titled "Elder Financial Abuse — Consequences of Fraudulent Affection," at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 24 in the Community Room at the Laguna Beach Community Center, 380 Third St.

Topics will include: power of attorney problems, bank account fraud, unauthorized loans and fraudulent property transfers.

Wisbaum has more than 20 years of experience litigating complex elder abuse matters resulting in the successful resolution of financial abuse and nursing home abuse cases.

Julia Knight visits Stephen Frank store

Stephen Frank Garden & Home will host a champagne reception for home décor designer Julia Knight from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 2 at the store, 477 Forest Ave., Laguna Beach.

Stephen Frank Garden & Home offers the largest selection of Julia Knight products in Orange County, including serveware, barware, glassware, home décor and other unique pieces, according to the store. The event is open to the public and will feature champagne and hors d'oeuvres from Stephen Frank Table & Pantry (Laguna Gourmet).

Guests will have a chance to meet Knight, who will introduce her new products, including fall 2010 serveware, Italian-made glassware and holiday pieces. Knight will personalize any of her items that are either purchased at the event or pre-ordered at Stephen Frank Garden & Home.

The boutique will also offer a gift with purchase for those who buy Julia Knight items leading up to and at the event. Guests who spend $150 will receive a six-inch cake stand; those who spend $300 will receive a 10-inch cake stand; and guests who spend $500 or more will receive a 14-inch cake stand.

Spa Montage offering yoga classes

Spa Montage Laguna Beach is offering biweekly yoga classes on Tuesdays and Sundays from 6 to 9 p.m. Classes are $40 per class and include access to all the spa's facilities, including pool, Jacuzzi, studio, sauna and steam room. Business workshop is Thursday

The city of Laguna Beach is sponsoring an "Open for Business" workshop for business owners and others interested in opening or expanding businesses in Laguna Beach from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday in the Laguna Beach Community Center, 380 Third St.

Workshop participants will include members of the City's Planning Commission, key city staff, Chamber of Commerce officials and successful local business owners, according to Planning Commissioner Anne Johnson, who is helping to organize the meetings.
