Edward Charles Giermann

Edward Charles Giermann passed away on 12/12/10 after a six and a half year battle with colon cancer. He died at home peacefully, surrounded by his loving family. He was 63.
Born to Charles and Florence Giermann on September 15, 1947 in Newport, Rhode Island, he grew up in Yuma, AZ and attended Catholic grammar school and Kofa High School. Ed graduated from the University of Arizona in 1969 with a degree in Agricultural Economics.
He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1969 to 1972, and earned the rank of Lieutenant, volunteering to fight in Vietnam. While serving his country as a Naval Officer, he and his wife, Annette, were stationed in Miramar, CA, Pensacola, FL Charleston, SC, Vallejo, CA, and Long Beach, CA.
Ever passionate about his career, Ed returned to school and earned his Juris Doctorate from Southwestern Law School in 1978. He enjoyed many years working as General Counsel for the J.G. Boswell Company, Newhall Land and Farming Company, Lennar Corporation and Five Point Communities. Though a lawyer by education, he was a self-described “farmer at heart,” spending time in agricultural fields throughout California and Arizona whenever possible.
He is survived by Annette Blair Giermann, his high school sweetheart, whom he married in 1969, his only daughter, Alexis Blair Giermann, his sister, Patricia Giermann and his brother, Lee Giermann. A devoted husband and unwavering father, he had a love for U of A sports, fly fishing in Colorado, Neil Diamond music and a good doughnut after Sunday morning mass at Holy Family. Ed was well known for his genuine interest in the lives of others. A friend to many and a stranger to none, he was a warm-hearted and honorable man. His compassionate spirit and jovial soul will be greatly missed.
A service will be held in his honor on December 21st, 2010, at 10:00 am at Holy Family Church. 1501 Fremont Ave., South Pasadena, CA 91030
