88-year-old dies after crash

COSTA MESA — An elderly man died after driving into a tree on Fairview Road, police confirmed Monday.

The unidentified 88-year-old was traveling on Fairview just north of Fair Drive about 7:23 p.m. Saturday when his car swerved to the left, went into the center divider and then into a tree.

The man was not wearing a seatbelt and sustained major head trauma from striking the steering wheel and windshield. He was transported to Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach and pronounced dead.

No other persons or vehicles were reported involved in the accident.


The victim’s name was withheld pending family notification.
