A fire broke out Friday afternoon aboard a Newport Harbor tour boat carrying 19 passengers and two crew members, but no one was injured, authorities said.

The Windward Sailing Club reported the boat fire near the Lido Island Bridge about 12:27 p.m., Newport Beach fire officials confirmed by telephone.

Bystanders saw smoke coming from the boat and quickly called 911. Windward members used Duffy boats to reach the boat’s passengers and crew and transport them safely back to shore.

The fire was out by the time firefighters and lifeguards boarded the vessel, Show Boat, according to a news release from the Newport Beach Fire Department. Grease from one of the boat’s engines may have caught fire, the release said.
