Hoag heart doctor elected to national post

A Hoag Hospital heart doctor has been elected chair of the Board of Governors for the American College of Cardiology, a 39,000-member national nonprofit medical society, Hoag officials said in a news release.

Dr. Dipti Itchhaporia, who has directed disease management for the Hoag's Heart & Vascular Institute since 2001, will work with the College of Cardiology board's immediate past chair and current chair to help set the agenda of the society's state chapters, the release said.

Itchhaporia's history with the College of Cardiology includes serving the California chapter as its Southern California governor, immediate past-president and Orange County councilor.

"The American College of Cardiology has a solid reputation of being an advocate for quality cardiovascular care through education, research promotion and development and application of standards and guidelines of care," Itchhaporia said in a prepared statement. "In this role, I plan to continue to uphold the college's mission in improving standards of care as well as fostering education and knowledge and advocating professionalism."
