The sounds of Shakespeare

On Sunday, locals can check out the second performance of “Shakespeare’s Fool.” The famed playwright’s speeches are set to a score resulting in a one-of-a-kind musical act. British singer-songwriter Jason Feddy and local John Gardiner make up the band. They played their first show Sunday.

“Shakespeare can seem difficult, but something about singing the words, stretching them out with a good, simple tune makes them immediately reach everyone,” Feddy said in a statement. “They could’ve been written yesterday. Our goal is to present the songs and speeches in ways that are entertaining, understandable and meaningful to any modern audience — whether they know Shakespeare’s work or not.”

Sunday’s performance is at No Square Theatre, 384 Legion St. For more information, visit nosquare.org.

Meet the artists

On Sunday, Laguna Art Museum is introducing two of its “Extract: Developing Exhibitions from the Collection” artists to the public with a special Q&A.

Laddie John Dill and Chris Wilder, both from Long Beach, will discuss their works that are on display.

Dill is known for installation and experimental projection. For one piece he filled a room with 10,000 pounds of sand, and he said he used shovels and brooms instead of a paintbrush.

Wilder is known for his conceptualism, which preaches that the idea is more important than physical evidence, or the hypothetical can be more telling than the literal. One of his paintings deals with the issue through the cultural phenomena of UFO sightings.

The Q&A starts at 1 p.m. at the Laguna Art Museum, 307 Cliff Drive. For more information, visit lagunaartmuseum.org.

Rock out for animals

On April 14, catching a live show at the Marine Room Tavern will be a little sweeter. While the Jamie Browning Band plays, Pet Place International will be fundraising for animals in need.

The nonprofit rescues dogs from a multitude of situations, rehabilitates them and finds them homes.

The band will play classic rock, along with a tribute to Tom Petty, while patrons can buy raffle tickets for giveaways or make donations to Pet Place International.

The Marine Room is at 214 Ocean Ave. Call (949) 494-3027 for more information.
