A failed underground electrical cable left nearly 3,000 homes or businesses in Irvine without power Monday morning.

The outage began at about 8:30 a.m., and by 10:15 power had been restored to most customers, according to Southern California Edison. The outage was in the area near Culver Drive and the San Diego (405) Freeway.

As of 12 p.m., power was still out for 117 customers. SoCal Edison expects that electricity would be restored by 7 p.m., once crews had checked each underground section that may be responsible for the failure.
