Kelly Parker has been named web editor for Times Community News (TCN) South.

Parker, who joined TCN nearly five years ago, will oversee the online operations for the Daily Pilot, Laguna Beach Coastline Pilot, Huntington Beach Independent and OC Now. She will also manage the social media efforts of the group of newspapers owned by and inserted in the Los Angeles Times in Orange County.

Parker most recently served as interim city editor for the Coastline Pilot and, prior to that, worked as page designer on TCN South’s copy desk. A graduate of Chico State University, Parker began her career as a designer at the Chico Enterprise-Record.

In addition, Coastline Pilot news reporter Joanna Clay has been named assistant web editor for TCN South. Clay recently completed an overhaul of TCN South’s Twitter and Facebook pages, and will continue to place extra emphasis on social media. In addition to her web duties, she will retain her reporting duties in Laguna Beach.

Clay, a UC Irvine graduate who started as an intern and freelancer at the Daily Pilot in 2010 and was hired on full-time in 2011, started her career at the now-defunct Orange County Local News Network.

Alisha Gomez, who has been working as a contract TCN copy editor, will serve as interim city editor at the Coastline Pilot. Gomez, a graduate of a Cal State Long Beach, previously worked as managing editor of the Orange County Business Journal. She has freelanced for multiple magazines, including Riviera and Long Beach.

“As our astute readers may have noticed, our web and social media pages are stronger than ever, largely because of the work Kelly and Joanna have already done,” said John Canalis, editor of TCN South. “Alisha is an exceptional editor and writer. We are lucky to have her overseeing an already great Laguna Beach paper.”
