Woman shot, killed in Costa Mesa

A woman was shot and killed Sunday night in the 2900 block of Redwood Avenue in Costa Mesa, just as police arrived on scene, authorities said in a press release.

A man was taken into custody shortly after the shooting, which is being investigated as a homicide.

After receiving a call about a domestic dispute, officers arrived at 6:24 p.m. and witnesses told them an armed man was inside the house, according to a Costa Mesa Police Department press release.

“As officers arrived at that residence, a single gunshot was heard inside the house,” the release states. “Officers immediately entered the residence in attempt to preserve life. They found a female victim who had sustained gunshot wounds to her chest. Additionally, a male believed to be the suspect was also located in the residence and taken into custody without incident.”

The victim was taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana and pronounced dead. Her identity was withheld, pending notification of next of kin.

The suspected shooter’s name was not released either.
