Erik Sobolewski of Corona Del Mar passed away on July 1.
Born in Wroclaw, Poland in1959 Erik was an idealistic dreamer. He stood resolutely by his values in the name of justice. Growing up on the lower east side of NYC, Erik had a strong loving bond with his immigrant mother, Tracy and was a wonderful advisor, friend, and protector to his two sisters, Margaret and Elizabeth.
Erik was a master craftsman and a builder. He favored funny movies that yielded belly laughs, he could be seamlessly silly in an effort to make others feel comfortable, his wit was stellar and he was never afraid to say things that were unexpected.
He became a husband in 1990 to Diane. Three years later, he became a father to Emily. As she grew up, he managed to balance his protectiveness of her with great love and his invaluable humor, and the result was a very special father-daughter relationship. Erik also loved his other “children” dearly - pets Oliver and Jackson. He was more like a son than a son-in-law to Diane’s parents, Dale and Jane Knight. He was also brother-in-law to Brian, Jere and Kevin, and an uncle to the nieces and nephews he loved - Cameron, Libby and Landon Knight, Ella Long and Ellis Gruesbeck.
Erik had so much love for Diane and Emily, and was taken from them too suddenly and too soon. In lieu of flowers Erik would have appreciated for Emily to follow her dream to complete her college education and the family has set up a memorial fund in her name, Emily Knight, at Wells Fargo 681-167-3356.
