Costa Mesa police arrested a man over the weekend who they said jumped from rooftop to rooftop after allegedly confronting one resident and forcing his way into a home.

Police arrested Timothy James Cassidy, 19, on suspicion of attempted robbery, residential burglary and being under the influence of a controlled substance in the 200 block of 23rd Street about 7:45 a.m. Saturday.

The arrest took place after one resident reported that Cassidy allegedly confronted him in front of his home and tried to steal his keys, according to the Costa Mesa Police Department.

When police arrived, they said one person claimed Cassidy allegedly forced his way into his home. Both residents said Cassidy fled when he was confronted by residents, according to police.

Police set up a perimeter, and soon after spotted Cassidy jumping from rooftop to rooftop, they said. He was taken into custody after he tried to run through the perimeter.

It was unclear how many roofs Cassidy allegedly jumped from and to and whether they were all residential.

Cassidy remains in custody at an Orange County jail, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department records.
