'Person of interest' questioned in fatal Huntington Beach stabbing

Huntington Beach police said Tuesday they were questioning a "person of interest" in an overnight stabbing that left one man dead.

Officers responded to a stabbing report at an apartment in the 7800 block of Newman Avenue about 12:20 a.m. Tuesday, said Lt. Gary Faust of the Huntington Beach Police Department. The victim, whose name has not been released, was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives identified another man as a person of interest and found him about 3:45 a.m. at another location in Huntington Beach, Faust said. The man, described as an acquaintance of the victim, was being questioned early Tuesday morning.

Investigators believe there were additional witnesses who left the apartment before officers arrived. They ask anyone with information about the incident to call (714) 536-5940.
