New bike rack installed

City Hall announced that a new bike rack for city employees was installed, according to City Manager John Pietig’s weekly update.

The rack, located close to City Hall, has spots for three bikes, and if used regularly by employees, additional racks will be considered, according to the news release.

In addition, the city’s shoppers parking permits have been purchased and will me mailed out Friday. Residents can still buy the permits via mail or online or visit City Hall’s cashier counter starting Sept. 4.

The permits are valid for two years, beginning Aug. 1 to July 31, 2014.

Foundation hosting grant workshop

The Laguna Beach Community Foundation is hosting a free grant program workshop for Laguna Beach nonprofits from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Monday at the Susi Q Senior Center, 380 Third St.

Participating organizations must provide services or programs in Laguna Beach, be a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization that is in good standing under the IRS code, according to a press release.

The 2012 grants, up to $10,000 per organization, are meant to be used for core operations such as capital projects and equipment, or staff and volunteer training.

Group selling plants as fundraiser

The Friends of the Hortense Miller Garden are hosting a plant sale from 8 a.m. to noon during the Laguna Beach Farmer’s Market, in the Lumberyard parking lot next to City Hall.

Gardening boxes and pots from recycled materials will be on sale. All proceeds will benefit the group, a press release said.

The Friends of the Hortense Miller Garden runs free tours of the property Tuesday through Saturday all year. For more information, visit https://www.hortensemillergarden.org.
