District picks principals for Kaiser, Andersen

Andersen and Kaiser elementary schools have new principals.

Supt. Fred Navarro appointed Shannon Bray to lead Andersen and Deborah Granger to lead Kaiser, according to a news release.

The school board is expected to formalize the appointments Aug. 28.

Bray worked at all school levels in during her nine years at the Clovis Unified School District, outside of Fresno. While she was principal, Maple Creek Elementary School’s Academic Performance Index (API) rose from 923 to 945 out of a possible score of 1,000. She starts in Newport-Mesa on Aug. 8.

Granger spent the last 12 years as coordinator of instructional services for the Orange County Department of Education, where she worked with TeWinkle Intermediate and Rea Elementary schools. She starts school Aug. 13.

Kaiser Principal Jerry Vlasic and his wife, Andersen Principal Laura Vlasic, announced they were leaving at the end of the 2011-12 school year. Jerry Vlasic became Laguna Beach Unified School District’s director of human resources, Newport-Mesa district spokeswoman Laura Boss said Wednesday.
