Police: Man fled with 1-year-old son

Newport Beach police searched for a man on Monday who had fled with his 1-year-old son after he and the child’s mother had a physical fight, police said.

The man and woman, who live together, fought about 12:30 a.m. Sunday, police said.

As the man fled after the fight, he had a minor traffic accident at 15th Street and West Balboa Boulevard.

He then left the scene on foot with his son, Newport Beach Police Department spokeswoman Kathy Lowe said.

Newport police, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department Harbor Patrol and Huntington Beach’s police helicopter worked together searching for the man.

Lowe said Newport police combed the area for about three hours but were unable to find the man and his boy.
