LBHS exit exam pass rate higher than county, state average
More than 95% of Laguna Beach High School sophomores passed the statewide high school exit exam last year, according to data released Aug. 22.
On the math section of the California High School Exit Exam, or CAHSEE, only 10 of 262 students tested did not pass, which is a passing rate of 96%, according to state records. In English-language arts, 98% of students passed, with only six students failing.
Laguna Beach students rank 8% higher in math and 10% higher in English-language arts compared with the rest of the county, according to records.
The state’s average for math is 84% and English-language arts is 83%, according to data.
Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services Deni Christensen said she was pleased with the results.
“We continue to be so proud of our high school students and our dedicated high school staff,” Christensen said in a statement. “Our CAHSEE results are exemplary and are a direct result of great community, staff, and parent support.”
Students who do not pass their sophomore year have the opportunity to retake the exam their junior and senior years. The state requires passing the exam in order to graduate.
