The Little Knight calls it a night

The Little Knight, a longtime watering hole, has closed its doors at 436 E. 17th St. in Costa Mesa.

But it’s not the end for the popular dive bar, which plans to reopen at The Triangle under another name, the Black Knight, according to the tavern’s Facebook page.

The Triangle’s owners, Greenlaw Partners, didn’t return calls seeking comment. The phone at the old tavern had been disconnected.

The Eastside bar was known for its cheap drinks, pool tables, jukebox and $1 fish tacos.

“If you like dive bars ... Little Knight is the place to be!” Joanna K. wrote on Yelp. “I’ve been a regular here for years, and it never disappoints!”

The Little Knight went out with a bang Aug. 28 with a party for “the record books,” according to Facebook.

Little Knight fans responded to the news with sadness. Some pledged support for the bar’s new incarnation, but others expressed concern the move to The Triangle wouldn’t be a good change. The Triangle is aiming for a more-upscale market.

“I’m sure I will visit, but it just won’t be the same,” Alicia G. wrote on Yelp. “Another great dive bar bites the dust...”
