A fund has been established for the four children and parents of a Costa Mesa police detective killed in an off-duty car crash, police announced Friday.

Mike Delgadillo, a 32-year veteran of the Costa Mesa Police Department, died Wednesday after his sedan crashed under the Costa Mesa (55) Freeway near Newport Boulevard and Bristol Street, authorities have said. He was 57.

He is survived by four children between the ages of 14 and 20, his parents and a brother.

Donations may be made to the Costa Mesa Police Officer Assn. Survivors Fund, on behalf of Mike Delgadillo, and sent to P.O. Box 1742, Costa Mesa, CA 92628.

Contributions should only be made to the survivors’ fund; the department does not have anyone soliciting donations, police said.

Arrangements for a memorial service have not been finalized.
