City reimbursed for September fire

Share

City officials accepted a $63,403 check from Southern California Edison for costs associated with the September fire above Ruby’s Diner, according to the city of Laguna Beach’s website.

The money also covers costs the city incurred while replanting the hillside, the website said.

The reimbursement means the city will not need to charge area property owners to recover money used for repairing the site.

Laguna Terrace is seeking its own reimbursement from Edison, according to the city.

The fire burned almost 5 acres between Laguna Terrace Park and Nyes Place, the Coastline Pilot reported. Downed power lines were deemed the cause of the fire, according to the Laguna Beach Fire Department’s investigation report.

One Orange County Fire Authority firefighter was injured, and no structures were damaged.
