Louise Katherine Burbank
June 16, 1934 ~ July 6, 2013

MONTEREY - Louise Katherine Burbank (Murphy) was born to Gerald and Louise Murphy on June 16, 1934 in Orange New Jersey. After a courageous battle with Pancreatic Cancer, Louise passed away peacefully at home in Monterey, California where she has resided for the last twenty five years, on July 6, 2013 at the age of 79. She was lovingly surrounded by her daughters Elizabeth Burbank, Kathleen (Kyle) Taylor, Constance Jonikas, Louise D. Burbank and Kimberly Burbank.
Louise attended St. Rose Catholic High School in Belmar, New Jersey and Georgian Court College in Lakewood New Jersey. She was briefly an Elementary School teacher before marrying Rem and raising their five daughters. She then went on to manage several retail outlets before running her own very successful private catering business in Newport Beach, California. After moving to Monterey Louise & Rem owned and operated Instant Copy & Printing for many years. Upon retirement they traveled the world working and co-managing corporate meetings and events with Carlson, Inc.
Louise was a faithful volunteer all her life and made a difference in the lives of many through her tireless efforts and involvement with San Carlos Church, Hospice, CHOMP, Tough Love, and Soroptimist of Monterey County.
Louise had a special gift of being an excellent listener and friend. She possessed the long lost gift of taking time out of her routine, whenever the occasion arose, no matter what she was doing, to be there for both friends, family and even strangers who needed someone to listen and a shoulder to lean on. She never missed an opportunity to selflessly help others in their time of need. She was the glue that held our family together and will be profoundly missed. We are thankful for her faith and the comfort of knowing that she has gone home to be with Jesus.
Louise is pre-deceased by her parents, Gerald & Louise Murphy, her husband of 52 years, Rem Burbank, and her grandson Zachary Johnson. In addition to her daughters and son-in-law, Louise is also survived by nine grandchildren, Remy & Shaun Fitzgerald, Joshua (Katy) Taylor, Matthew Taylor, Nikolas Jonikas, Antonia (Ricky) Mickle, Ben Watson, and Eryn Miller as well as her great grandchild, Riley Mickle. Additionally she is survived by her siblings Jerry Murphy (Barbara), Nancy Gibboney (Phil), Maureen Cohen (David), Shaun Murphy (Penny) and Peggy Murphy.
A vigil celebrating Louise’s life will be held on Thursday, July 11th at San Carlos Cathedral at 500 Church Street, Monterey, CA in Monterey at 7:00 p.m. There will be a Memorial Service at San Carlos Cathedral on Friday, July 12th at 9:30 a.m., with a reception to immediately follow at the San Carlos Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to The San Carlos Cathedral, Hospice of the Central Coast, or The American Cancer Society.
