Mayor's dinner brings in $31,500

The inaugural Costa Mesa mayor's dinner raised $31,500 for various youth art programs in the city, officials announced this week.

The April 25 event, dubbed "The Art of Leadership," exceeded organizers' original goal of $30,000.

The arts programs at Costa Mesa High and Estancia High schools each received $10,700. Mayor Jim Righeimer on Tuesday presented a giant check to the Newport-Mesa Unified school board.

The remaining $10,100 was given to art programs associated with PBS SoCal and the Segerstrom Center for the Arts, which hosted the dinner in its Samueli Theater.
