Cystic fibrosis benefit, honoring Mike Ness, to be held Saturday

Mike Ness of Social Distortion and his wife, Christine, will be honored during the sixth annual Pipeline to a Cure Gala, benefiting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, at the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort & Spa on Saturday.

The event is also a celebration of the benefits that surfing brings to the CF community.

Mike and Christine Ness, who live in Newport Beach, are the 2013 Emily's Heroes honorees. They are known for their commitment to Pipeline to a Cure before the inaugural event. Mike Ness and Social Distortion performed on stage during a Pipeline to a Cure event to help bring more attention to the cause.

The gala will feature several special guests. Mike Dirnt of Green Day is expected to attend.

Flashback Heart Attack, a 1980s cover band, will provide music and entertainment. Members of the band live in Costa Mesa and Huntington Beach. Flashback plays regularly at the Harp Inn in Costa Mesa and the White House in Laguna Beach.

Honorary chairmen and surf legends Laird Hamilton and Dave Kalama will also attend.

Cystic fibrosis, a life-threatening disorder, is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system.
