Aimee McKinnon
Aimee (Dixie) McKinnon died peacefully early Friday morning, July 19, 2013, at Coastal Communities Hospital. She was born in Vancouver, BC one hundred years ago on March 8, 1913. Aimee’s father, George Birnbach, was an architect; her mother, Margaret Hamburg Birnbach, was an organist. From them, she acquired a love of art and music that would endure throughout her life.
In 1932, she married Charles McKinnon and they remained happily married for 67 years until his death in 1999. Charles and Aimee loved to travel in their cozy motor home in the US and as tour guides abroad. When she wasn’t traveling or helping Charles with his real estate business, Aimee loved to paint, to play the piano, and to cook. They established residency with their two children, Charles Jr and Roger in Corona del Mar, during 1949.
Aimee is survived by two sons: Charles McKinnon Jr. and Roger McKinnon; four grandchildren: Michael McKinnon, Greg McKinnon, Lori McKinnon, and Kim Smith; eleven great grandchildren: Matthew McKinnon, Hadley McKinnon, Carson McKinnon, Jean Marie McKinnon, Erin Duran, Tom McKinnon, Michael Patrick McKinnon, Bryn Smith and Madison Smith; and one great, great grandchild, Ivy McKinnon.
She will be greatly missed by her family and all those who knew and loved her.
