Rioting breaks out after US Open of Surfing

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (KTLA) — Civil rioting broke out near the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and First Street on Sunday evening, according to Huntington Beach police.

The unrest occurred while officers were attempting to disperse crowds following the 2013 U.S. Open of Surfing, which finished up Sunday around 5:00 p.m. in Huntington Beach.

There was damage to property, including several portable toilets that were pushed over, witness Francisco Gomez told KTLA.

Officers used pepper spray on individuals in the mob, Gomez said.
