Memorial set for scientist Joie Jones

The life of Joie Jones will be celebrated with a memorial service at 2 p.m. Sept. 15 at the Neighborhood Congregational Church in Laguna Beach.

A reception will follow at the church, at Glenneyre Street and St. Ann's Drive. Friends and colleagues are invited.

Jones, a highly regarded scientist, food and wine expert and educator, died June 23 after years of failing health. He was 72.

Jones moved to Laguna Beach in 1977 with his wife, Becky, when he was appointed professor of radiological sciences at UC Irvine.

The family asks that those who are unable to attend the service remember him on that day.
