Clarence Hagood Boyd III, or “C” as his friends knew him, a long-time resident of Laguna Beach, passed away suddenly on October 23rd. He was 72. Born August 15th, 1941 to C.H. Boyd Jr. and Alice Boyd, he grew up in the Forest Park area of Fort Worth, Texas. He married his high school sweetheart, Eva Marie Warren, in August of 1960 and the two would be together the next 45 years until her passing in 2005. In July of 1961 they had their first son, Clarence Hagood [“Chuck”] Boyd IV; their second son, James Warren Boyd, was born two years later. C received his BA and MBA from Texas Christian University, where he pledged Lambda Chi Alpha. Following graduation, he and Eva Marie relocated to Southern California, and in 1970 purchased an Eichler home in Orange, CA. C worked in research, development, and marketing for Mattel Toys before eventually partnering with Tom Wyckoff, to form “Boyd and Wyckoff,” a manufacturer’s representative company for the craft and hobby industry. In 1981, with both sons away at college, CH and Eva Marie moved to Laguna Beach, CA, where he would live for more than 30 years. While in Laguna he founded, owned, and operated Elan Galleries and was eventually invited to serve on the Board of Directors of the Laguna Beach Arts Council. C then became Accredited Senior Appraiser with the American Society of Appraisers (ASA) in the Personal Property discipline with a specialty in Fine Arts. In December of last year, C retired to Haiku, Maui, with his partner of over eight years Marcia Jaconi. C’s family and friends will deeply miss his exceptional warmth, intelligence, compassion, playfulness, wit, and charm. A celebration of his life will be held at 10:00am on Thursday November 14, at Neighborhood Congregational Church, 340 St. Ann’s Drive, in Laguna Beach.

In Lieu of Flowers, all are welcome to make a donation in C’s name to an organization that he supported, “nothirstychild.org” – a non-profit who builds rainwater catchment systems for the poor in Rwanda.
