Man arrested in knife incident

Laguna Beach police arrested a Pennsylvania man on suspicion of brandishing a knife on a bus Monday afternoon.

Todd Robert Whited, 37, allegedly displayed a large folding knife on a moderately full bus in the 1400 block of North Coast Highway at 3:16 p.m., Sgt. Louise Callus wrote in an email.

The Orange County Sheriff's Department contacted Laguna Beach police about the man, Callus said.

Police arrived and escorted Whited, a Stoystown, Penn., resident, from the bus, which had pulled to the side of North Coast Highway near Viejo Street, and immediately arrested him, Callus said.

No one on the bus was injured, though Whited complained of abdominal pain and was eventually admitted to Mission Hospital Laguna Beach, Callus said.
