Free Sunset Serenades in May

Musicians from a variety of genres will descend on Laguna Beach in May to play tunes at twilight.

The city's Arts Commission is organizing Sunset Serenades, free concerts to be held at 6:30 p.m. for four Fridays in May at the Heisler Park Amphitheatre.

Singer and songwriter Tolan Shaw will kick off the series Friday, followed by Band of Rogues (traditional Irish trio) on May 9; Ken Garcia and Davina (Latin) on May 16; and Sierra West (folk/rock) on May 23.

Lodging establishments and the city jointly fund the program.

City seeks input on transit services

The city plans to mail a transit survey to Laguna Beach residents beginning next week, according to a news release.

Each household that completes the survey, which will also be available online at, will help shape transit services, including the main bus line, the taxi voucher program, summer tolleys and senior transportation, the release said.

Urban planning group on city website

The city's website now has a page dedicated to the Urban Planning Coordinating Committee, a group that includes City Council, Planning Commission and city staff representatives, along with consultants.

The committee, approved by the council in March, is coordinating various urban planning efforts, including

the Parking Management Plan, the Laguna Canyon Road corridor assessment, the Downtown Specific Plan, the Village Entrance and public transit.

Links to all the current projects are available on the website as is a place to subscribe for text and email alerts. Select the subscription option for the Urban Planning Coordinating Committee.

The committee meets once per month. The next meeting is scheduled for 8 a.m. May 23 at the Laguna Beach Community and Susi Q Senior Center, 380 Third St.
