Hennessey’s Tavern will celebrate its newest location in Costa Mesa with a ribbon-cutting ceremony 4 p.m. Thursday.

The Costa Mesa Chamber of Commerce will host the event, which comes about two weeks after the Irish-style restaurant first opened its doors at 1773 Newport Blvd.

Upcoming Laguna Playhouse show is for the dogs

The Laguna Playhouse will present a production of “The Perfect Dog” Friday through Sunday.

The play, directed by Dylan Russell, is described as a “heartwarming musical about man’s best friend and their people.”

Tickets start at $18, plus fees. Show times are 7 p.m. Friday, and 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

The Parkinson’s Foundation will host an educational conference in Corona del Mar on Saturday.

Local artists, writers are centerpiece of new Laguna museum exhibition

The Laguna Art Museum and Laguna Beach’s literary laureate, Lojo Simon, are partnering to open a new exhibition Saturday.

“Word & Image in Dialogue” features art and literature by local artists and writers. Participating creatives will discuss their work during a Jan. 23 reception that starts at 6 p.m. The exhibition will be open through Jan. 26.

Old World to host model and hobby expo

The Brewer Bros. Model Kit, Hobby & Toy Expo is scheduled Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Old World in Huntington Beach.

Activities will include a veterans symposium, military vehicles, historical re-enactment groups and model-making classes.

The first in a series of weekend beach cleanups at Huntington Dog Beach, 100 Goldenwest St., will take place at 11 a.m. Sunday.

UCI to host Lunar New Year event Tuesday

UC Irvine will celebrate the Lunar New Year with an academic discussion, multicultural entertainment, artistic demonstrations, interactive workshops, a raffle, parades, food and a laser light show on Tuesday.

Coastline’s cybersecurity program lauded by statewide group

The Academic Senate for California Community Colleges has awarded Coastline College’s cybersecurity program the Exemplary Program Award, according to a news release.

The Fountain Valley college’s program offers a 60-unit associate of science degree and several certificates.

“We are honored for Coastline College’s cybersecurity program to be selected to receive the 2020 Exemplary Program Award from the board of governors,” professor Tobi West, the department’s chairman, said in a statement. “We look forward to continuing these efforts to build the cyber workforce of tomorrow.”

H.B. mayor wants to recognize ‘unsung heroes’

Huntington Beach Mayor Lyn Semeta is looking for candidates to recognize as part of her new “Making a Difference in HB” awards.

The endeavor aims to applaud Surf City’s “unsung heroes” and “bring attention to the efforts of lesser-known volunteers who make a positive difference, often behind the scenes or without widespread recognition,” according to city officials.

New restaurant coming to Costa Mesa

A former In-N-Out Burger executive will open a restaurant in Costa Mesa later this year, according to a news release.

Kenwood’s Kitchen and Tap, the brainchild of Ken Kenwood, will be in the Shops at Mesa Verde, 1555 Adams Ave. The 4,000-square-foot facility will serve American comfort cuisine.
