Alleged bank robbers arrested
Four robbery suspects were arrested Wednesday after allegedly
holding up a bank inside the Vons supermarket in Costa Mesa.
One of the suspects, Kenneth Andre McKinley, 27, reportedly
entered the Bank of America in the 2700 block of Harbor Boulevard
shortly after noon and brandished a gun at the employees behind the
counter. McKinley then reportedly jumped over the counter and went
into the safe, where he stole about $20,000, according to the Costa
Mesa Police Department.
Avan Deshawne Ricks, 19, of Long Beach was allegedly waiting in
the lobby of the bank and brandished a gun to prevent customers from
entering the bank during the robbery. The two suspects then ran out
of the bank into the parking lot, police said. Two officers heard the
call on their radios and saw the men running through the parking lot.
Sgt. Dave Anderson arrested McKinley, and Officer Scott Dibble
found Ricks in an apartment building south of the bank. The money and
weapons were recovered. Two other alleged accomplices, Gregory Lamont
Brown, 27, of Los Angeles and Terrence Marshaun Lee, 22, of Lynwood
were apprehended as they were walking away from the bank.
All four suspects were taken to Costa Mesa jail and booked on
suspicion of robbery. They’re each being held on $100,000 bail.
