Huntington student faces drug charges
A Huntington Beach High School student was arrested on suspicion
of selling drugs on campus.
Police would not release the name of the student, a minor, who was
arrested after being found with what police said was either cocaine
or methamphetamine.
The student was taken into custody by city police on school
grounds after they were contacted by school police, who initiated the
investigation, Sgt. Dave Bunetta said.
Scott Atkinson, chief of the high school district police
department, declined to comment on the arrest. The substances were
sent to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department for analysis, Bunetta
said.
Police looking into Laguna Beach link
Detectives in Laguna Beach have said an armed robbery suspect may
be the same man responsible for the January murder at the 99 Cents
Only Store.
“We’re not publicly putting out that we think there’s a strong
relation between the two,” Huntington Beach police Sgt. Dave Bunetta
said.
On Jan. 29, Shawna Wolfgram, a 19-year-old clerk at the 99 Cents
Only Store located in the 16600 block of Beach Boulevard, was shot by
an armed robber.
On Feb. 28, an armed robber stole about $1,100 in cash from a
Pavilions supermarket in Laguna Beach.
Police in both cities have shared information on the cases.
“[Laguna] investigators wanted to see the composite that we had,”
Bunetta said.
Laguna Beach Det. Paul Litchenberg said they were considering the
possibility that the same suspect committed both crimes.
Police in the two cities gave similar descriptions of the suspect.
Huntington Beach police described the killer as a white man, between
40 to 50 years old and weighing 150 to 170 pounds. He reportedly had
graying hair and a mustache.
Laguna Beach investigators described the Pavilions robber as a
white man between 50 and 60 years old, having a thin build and pale
complexion, with brown and gray hair and a bushy mustache.
The two departments’ descriptions differ concerning the suspect’s
height. Huntington Beach police described the killer as being between
6 feet and 6 feet 2. The Laguna Beach robber was described as being
between 5 feet 7 and 5 feet 9.
Anyone with information can call Laguna Beach police at (949)
497-0758 or Huntington Beach police at (714) 375-5066.
Single-car accident on Springdale fatal
The driver of a pickup truck was killed Sunday after running into
a light pole.
At about 11:23 p.m., police responded to a traffic accident at the
intersection of Edinger Avenue and Springdale Street, and found a
Ford F150 truck on the sidewalk, Lt. Craig Juninger said.
The Orange County Coroner’s Division identified the driver as
36-year-old Armando Huerta of Azusa. Huerta died of multiple
injuries.
Huerta died at the scene of the accident, Juninger said. A
passenger, La Habra resident Jose Carmen, was taken to UCI Medical
Center after suffering what police described as nonlife-threatening
injuries.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation, and police
are waiting for the results of toxicology reports, Sgt. Dave Bunetta
said.
