Laguna Canyon Conservancy gears up for annual meeting

The past, present and future of Crystal Cove State Park will be the

topic of the 16th annual Laguna Canyon Conservancy meeting, to be

held Monday at Tivoli Terrace.

The park’s superintendent, Ken Kramer, will present a pictorial

overview of Crystal Cove State Park. It will include the park’s

historic district and a preview of the plans for El Morro that the

State Parks department will be seeking approval of from the Coastal

Commission in June.

Kramer, a 25-year employee of the State Parks, has been assigned

to Crystal Cove since the mid-1980s. He is responsible for management

of public safety, resource protection, education and maintenance

programs at the park. He lives in Corona Del Mar.

There will be a short business meeting before the Crystal Cove

presentation to elect board members. The incumbent nominees are

Jeanie Bernstein, Maxwell Brown, Ed Drollinger, Siggy Johnson, John

Keith, Gene Felder, J.J. Gasparotti, Sharon Larimer, Fran McGowan,

John Pfeffer, Diane Valentino, Carolyn Wood and a new nominee,

Kimberly Stuart.

The dinner meetings begin at 6 p.m., with dinner served at 6:45

p.m. Dinner tickets are $10 for members and $15 for nonmembers and

may be purchased at the door with prior reservations. The yearly

membership fee is only $10. The public is invited. Reservations are

required.

number of reservations and the correct spelling for the name tags.

Deadline to make reservations is Saturday. Early reservations are

Great Earth Walk coming to Crystal Cove

The Orange County CoastKeepers will host the Great Earth Walk 2004

Saturday at Crystal Cove Park.

Hikers will be able to choose from trails with varying degrees of

difficulty. Inland trails feature rocky dirt paths up to 11 miles

long, beach trails are sandy and rocky and are about 3 1/2 miles

long. A guided hike will be on a mostly paved trail.

The event will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The guided walk will begin

at 9:30 a.m. Parking is available at the Los Trancos parking lot off

of Pacific Coast Highway, just south of Newport Beach city limits.

Meetings with the mayor continue on Mondays

Mayor Cheryl Kinsman will continue her “Mondays with the Mayor” at

City Hall on the Monday before each City Council meeting, including

this Monday. The meeting is an opportunity for residents of Laguna

Beach to talk with the mayor and let her know their ideas.

May’s “Mondays with the Mayor” will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday

and, at a different time, 10 a.m. to noon May 17.
