Summer softball action heats up

The Saloon and Knights maintained two-game leads in the Tuesday and Wednesday League standings, respectively, as action heated up in the city of Laguna Beach Community Services Dept. summer 16” slow-pitch softball play.

In the Monday League standings, the idle DUI Fighters held onto firstplace, although the Accused and Rotary closed in on that lead. The Compound Fractures hold a one-game lead in the Thursday League standings.

Accused 8, Bamboo Bar & Grill 7

Austen Ezzell hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning to break a tie and lift the Accused to their fifth consecutive win.

Blake Hite, Matt Ronig and Ben Dwyer also hit home runs for the Accused.

Ryan Neptune hit two home runs and singled to lead the Bamboo offense.

Rotary 11, Hosers 4 Rotary snapped a two-game losing streak as Jonathan Cohen homered three times and singled twice .Mark Mauer singled four times.

Island Shade 14, Sac Johnson 11

Wade Jones, Chuck Emanuele, Mike Busalacchi and Brad Upton all homered for Island Shade, which kept its playoff hopes alive with the victory.

Sac Johnson racked up 14 singles and outhit Island Shade, 14-11.

Tuesday League

Ganahl Lumber 3, Forty Majority 1

John Campbell had a no-hitter through five innings and gave up just three singles in the game to power Ganahl Lumber past Forty Majority.

Fred Bonn doubled and singled to lead Ganahl Lumbers’ seven-hit attack.

Sandpiper 20, Team Viagra 2

Grant Harrell hit three home runs, including a grand slam, and Ryan Neptune homered twice and singled as Sandpiper overpowered Team Viagra.

Adding to the Sandpiper’s hitting onslaught were Mica Brown, Brett Nelson and Tyler Waidley, each of whom homered and singled twice.

Dylan Murphy singled twice for Team Viagra.

Wednesday League

Knights 12, Angels 11

The defending champion Knights closed in on another regular season title after they rallied to slip past the Angels.

Dave McCollum’s hit tied the score, 11-11, in the bottom of the seventh. That was followed by singles from Mike McKenzie and Micah Stovall before Teo Moore delivered the game-winning hit that scored McKenzie.

McKenzie and Stovall each went four for four.

Greg Cain, Ryan Indovina and Marco Johnson each went three for three for the Angels.

Mesa Verde Partners 14, Giraffes 2

Mesa Verde Partners twice went through its batting order in its first at-bat in game that was called after 1 1/2 innings of play.

Bill Toon hit two home runs to account for six RBI. Dave Meggison and Danny Lane also homered.

Tyrol Proppe homered for the Giraffes.

Lost Boys 14, Robster Craws 9

The Lost Boys ended a losing skid at three games by blasting 16 hits against the Robster Craws.

Bo Harmon went four for six in a performance that included a home run and three singles and Kurt Blanton hit a grand slam and singled twice.

Brian Voytovich tripled, doubled and singled for the Robster Craws.
