Jaffe, Quirarte, Raffo earn all-star nominations

Laguna Beach High seniors Alec Jaffe, Ethan Quirarte and Ryan Raffo all were nominated for the South team of the 51st annual Brea Lions Orange County all-star football game.

Roster selections will be announced later this month. The game is July 16 at Orange Coast College.

Jaffe (a running back and defensive back), Quirarte (tight end/linebacker) and Raffo (lineman) helped Laguna win the Orange Coast League title this past season.

Laguna’s Selevan earns All-CIF nod

Laguna Beach High senior Adam Selevan was named to the All-CIF Southern Section Division IV-A second team for boys’ basketball.

Selevan, who led the Breakers in scoring, helped Laguna Beach earn its fourth straight Orange Coast League title. He was previously named the Orange Coast League’s Most Valuable Player.

Equestrians bring home ribbons

Makenna Grierson, Nina Thornton and Madalyn Metz traveled to Thermal to compete in the 2010 HITS Desert Circuit in mid-March

The Thermal Desert Circuit is the first major competition of the equestrian show season, attracting riders, Olympians and trainers from across the globe.

Grierson, a promising fifth-grader at Top of the World Elementary, competed on Ginger Snapz. Together, they won first place in Short Stirrup Equitation Pony Flat.

Thornton, a Laguna Beach High sophomore, competed in just two classes, earning ribbons in each. She won top honors aboard Keeping The Faith in Jr. Maiden Equitation Flat and placed second in Jr. Novice Equitation Flat.

Metz, a senior at Laguna Beach High, competed on Concerto, winning second and third in Children’s Hunter 14-17 and Schooling Hunter 2’9”.
